Story, heat and visuals are our editorial scores (visuals judged on Episode 1 frames). Value is calculated from Candy's token prices for this series.
Verdict: A tight hotel-room premise with a genuine twist, shot in a lived-in, phone-camera style. The first two episodes cost nothing, and the three paid ones are 12 tokens each, 36 in all. Easy to try.
Room 742 is a five-episode Candy Shorts series that begins with a hotel keycard opening the wrong door. Episode 1 plays on Candy with no sign-up, Episode 2 is free with a free account, and Episodes 3 to 5 cost 12 tokens each, so the whole series is easy to price before you commit.
If you came here to watch it for free or in full, here is the short version: the only legitimate place to watch is Candy, and the first two episodes cost nothing. The rest of this page covers the story, the token bill and what Episode 1 looks like.
Candy's synopsis, in full: “My keycard opened room 742. A stranger was already inside — and I stayed. Then his wife knocked. She wasn't surprised to see me. She picked me herself. And she doesn't want me gone. She wants to watch.” All characters are adults.
The wrong-room mix-up is only the opener. The real hook is the wife: she is not shocked, she chose you herself, and what she wants is not an apology. That turns what looked like a hotel mistake into something that was planned, and it gives a short series a clear question to chase from Episode 1 into Episode 2.
It is also told in the first person. The synopsis speaks as the guest who stayed, so the story is built around a single point of view and a single decision: you opened the door, you saw who was inside, and you did not leave. That small choice is the whole engine of the premise.
Candy tags the series taboo and wife, and we file it in our Wife category. Candy does not publish plots for individual episodes, so we will not guess how the five episodes play out. What the synopsis gives you is the setup and the tone, and that is plenty to decide on.
Partly, and the free part is generous. Episode 1 plays with no sign-up at all. Episode 2 is free once you create a free Candy account. Episodes 3, 4 and 5 cost 12 tokens each. The episode list on this page shows every episode with its cost.
Is Room 742 on Candy AI free? For two of its five episodes, yes. If you are counting Room 742 free episodes, the number is two: Episode 1 with no sign-up and Episode 2 with a free account. Both sit in the same episode list as the paid ones, so there is nothing to hunt for. Our guide to what is free on Candy Shorts explains the account step in more detail.
Room 742 Episode 3 is the first one that costs anything: 12 tokens. Episodes 4 and 5 cost the same, so finishing the series after the two free episodes takes 36 tokens in total. Candy's Premium plan includes 100 tokens a month, which means the entire run fits inside one month's allowance.
Premium is $9.99 for the first month, then $13.99 a month, and the Candy Shorts price page covers the longer plans. Charges appear on a statement as “EverAI”, since Candy is run by EverAI Limited.
At 12 tokens a piece, this is a modest bill for a five-episode story. The decision is simple: watch Episodes 1 and 2 first. If you finish Episode 2 wanting to know what the wife has in mind, 36 tokens is a fair price. If you do not, you have spent nothing. Our score for the series is in the box above.
The opening frames lean on realism rather than gloss. The setting is an ordinary hotel corridor: patterned wallpaper, patterned carpet, a brass plaque reading 742 on a dark wood door, and a keycard reader on the handle. Inside the room, a table lamp throws warm, amber light over a stone-look counter, with a cream-colored desk phone on a coiled cord beside it.
The camera is handheld and close, in vertical phone format, with slightly grainy lighting and spontaneous framing. In one frame a blurred hand crosses the lens, which adds to the caught-on-camera feeling. It looks more like a phone video of a real hotel stay than a glossy cinematic grade, and for a story about a keycard mix-up that plainness works in its favor.
The trade-off is polish. If you prefer the sunlit, high-gloss look of other Candy Shorts, this is plainer. The location is consistent from shot to shot, though, down to the 742 plaque, which keeps the story anchored in one believable place.
Only on Candy. The series lives on Candy Shorts, and that is the one place with the real episodes and the subtitles, which come in 6 languages. Our how to watch Candy Shorts guide walks through the steps from the first click.
Seen a Room 742 leaked clip, or a supposed full upload on another site? Treat it with suspicion. Re-uploads outside Candy are partial, fake or scams, and some exist only to get you to click something that is not a video. The free, legal way in is Episode 1 with no sign-up, then Episode 2 with a free account.
This is for viewers who like a slow-turning, what-would-you-do setup: a stranger's room, a wife who is two steps ahead, and a story told from the guest's point of view. Candy has not given it the Spicy label, but the taboo tag and the synopsis make the premise itself the heat.
